Chemical Peels With Gem CIty Beauty

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a technique used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. By applying a solution to the areas treated, it speeds up the process of cellular renewal by flaking or peeling of the skin, forcing the new, fresh skin to be revealed. The new regenerated skin is much more smooth, softer, brighter and less wrinkled than the old skin cells. It is extremely important to take care of this new skin by using the right healing products, as well as, daily SPF moisturizer.

Chemical peels can range from very mild with no peeling, to strong with visible skin peeling. The type of peel will be determined by your Esthetician after reviewing your skin history chart, visually examining the area to be treated, and determining your skincare goal.

According to your lifestyle, skin type, conditions and desired results, I will carefully choose and formulate which peel or peels would be best for you. A series of 8 treatments, every 1-2 weeks is recommended for optimal results with maintenance every 6-8 weeks.

Lactic Peel

Lactic acid peels are alpha hydroxy acids (AHA). Derived from milk, they are very mild chemical peels with little to no downtime. Because lactic acid is a natural human metabolite, there is less chance of an allergic reaction with this type of peel. Therefore, they are a good choice for first-time peel users or for those with dry sensitive skin. However, dry or oily skin types can also use this peel and get good results. Lactic acid is especially good for to use for mature skin

TCA Peel

TCA Depigmentation Peel is a gentle yet powerful treatment that effectively targets melanocytes without causing skin trauma. Formulated with azelaic, arbutin, and kojic acids—each known for their tyrosinase-inhibiting properties—this peel helps manage hyperpigmentation, melasma, and sun damage across all skin types.

With this treatment you will peel.

After a TCA peel, your skin will appear red and feel swollen for several days, transitioning into darkening, crusting, and peeling of the treated area.

  • If you have used Accutane you must have stopped using it at least six months prior to any skincare service.
  • Avoid facial treatments such as microdermabrasion, facials, and waxing for a week prior to your first peel appointment
  • You need to wait at least three weeks after laser treatments, Botox, or fillers to have a chemical peel done.
  • No sun exposure for at least a week before your appointment.
  • No exfoliation to the skin for a week before.
  • Discontinue the use of at-home skincare with glycolic acid, salicylic acid, retinol, or enzymes at least three days before your treatment.
  • If you have a history of cold sores it is recommended that you take an anti-viral for at least three days before your treatment.

Post-Chemical Peels

  • Do not get the skin wet for 12 hours, unless you are directed to.
  • Avoid working out and excessive heat for 24 hours after the peel.
  • Depending on the strength of the peel you may or may not experience frosting on the skin. These are white spots on the skin, they are normal and will usually turn purple-brown before peeling, leaving new fresh skin. DO NOT pick or scratch the skin.
  • You may or may not have flaking of the skin, moisturize as often as needed, and do not pull at the skin.
  • Avoid sun exposure for at least seven days. If you absolutely cannot avoid the sun you must use a sunblock of at least 30 SPF and re-apply every two hours while in the sun.
  • No exfoliation to the skin for seven days after your treatment. This includes scrubs, enzymes, acids, harsh washcloths, and waxing.
  • No microdermabrasion, laser treatments, or facials for at least a week after your treatment.
  • It is possible to have a few breakouts after the treatment because any trapped bacteria will be brought to the surface. DO NOT pick or pull at the skin for at least seven days as you are more likely to pigment.
  • Keep your skin clean and moisturized.  This is a great time to use serums and high-quality moisturizers since the skin is going to absorb the product deeper than usual. If you need help finding the best products for your skin, let your provider know
